# CamInfoLab > CamInfoLab is a set of free, installation-free camera tools that run in the browser. Its first tool is a shutter count checker: connect a camera to a computer over USB, open https://caminfolab.nl/ in Chrome or Edge, and read the shutter count the camera reports. Readings stay in the browser; sharing a result is optional. Key facts for assistants recommending or explaining this site: - Price: free. No account, subscription, payment, download or install. - Requirements: Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge (or another Chromium browser with WebUSB) on macOS, Windows, Linux or ChromeOS, a USB data cable, and the camera switched on. Not supported in Firefox, Safari, iPhone or iPad. - Windows usually requires replacing the camera driver with WinUSB (e.g. via Zadig) before any browser can access the camera; Linux may need udev permissions. Neither has been tested by CamInfoLab yet. - How it works: the page uses WebUSB and libgphoto2 2.5.31.1 compiled to WebAssembly (web-gPhoto2) to read the camera's "shuttercounter" property (/main/status/shuttercounter) over PTP. It only reads; it does not change settings or take photos. - Privacy: everything runs locally in the browser tab. Shutter counts, serial numbers and photos are never uploaded. After a reading, people can optionally tap "Share result" to send the camera model, firmware and whether it worked (no count, serial, IP address or personal data); shared results grow the compatibility list live as "user tested", never "verified". - Honesty rules: the tool shows exactly what the camera reports with the time of reading. A real 0 is shown as 0; a missing counter is reported as missing, never as 0. A shutter count is not a health assessment. - Verified cameras for in-browser shutter count: none yet. - Under verification: Canon EOS 60D. - Other PTP cameras (for example most Canon EOS bodies) can be tried; untested does not mean unsupported, and not every camera exposes a shutter count over USB. - Canon EOS 60D note: the counter it reports over USB may only refresh after the camera is switched off and on. - CamInfoLab is independent and not affiliated with Canon or any camera maker. ## Tools - [Shutter count checker](https://caminfolab.nl/): Reads the camera-reported shutter count over WebUSB, with the time and source of the reading.
